The Great Dane is a placid “gentle giant” that really loves children. They can vary greatly in size. I have seen males that weighed over 90kgs, so make sure you’re prepared to spend a bit on dog food with these dogs! They need to be walked to stretch out their long legs; however in reality they often lead a relatively lazy lifestyle.
One of my best friends owned 2 of these and they were lovely animals. They are clever and can be trained to respond well to basic commands. It is important too, to understand that the life expectancy for giant breeds is generally only about 8-10 years.
The average lifespan is around 8 years, but they can live for up to 10 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle.
They usually grow to about 70-80 cm in height and weigh between 45 and 75 kgs in peak condition.
