Newfoundland Dogs are enormous dogs that were originally bred for water rescues. They love children and are a great family pet.
In warmer climates, they may require clipping during the summer months as their thick black coats can get very hot. They will also require regular grooming to keep their coats looking good. This breed is an excellent guard dog, companion and children’s pet.
The average lifespan is around 8-9 years, as it is for other giant breeds, but they can live for up to 11 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle.
They usually grow to about 65-75 cm in height and weigh between 50 and 60 kgs in peak condition.
