Old English Sheepdog
As the name suggests, Old English Sheepdogs were originally bred as a sheep dog, but they are now mostly just a loyal family pet. It is a very suitable breed for young children and they are adorable as puppies.
In Australia the breed is also known as the ‘Dulux Dog’ as there was a Dulux Paint Advertising Campaign that starred one of these characteristic dogs. They look a bit like big hairy bears and will probably need a clip and groom in the summer months to stop their shaggy coat from matting and to keep the dog cool.
The average lifespan is around 8-9 years, as it is for other giant breeds, but they can live for up to 11 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle.
They usually grow to about 55-62 cm in height and weigh between 25 and 45 kgs in peak condition.
